The Face of Inevitability

 

A non-calendar public holiday was declared in Uganda today in honor of the Kyabazinga of Busoga, Henry Wako Muloki.  Muloki passed away last week and is to be buried at his ancestral home in Kaliro today.

 

I am one of many Ugandans who opted not to go on holiday today because an unscheduled day off is too costly to consider.  However, I would like join the Basoga community in mourning the death of their king by highlighting some of the interesting facts that make the Basoga such a fascinating people.

The earliest inhabitants of Busoga belonged to the same Bantu group comprising the Batooro and Baganda. Their origin can be traced like other Bantu groups to the Katanga region of Central Africa.

 

There are three major legends about the origin of the Basoga.
