Don McKinnon, the former Secretary General of the Commonwealth, kept an excellent blog during the recent Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Kampala.
I, like many Ugandans, were inconvenienced and harassed by the CHOGM organizers and dismissed the meeting as a colossal waste of time and money. But through McKinnon’s blog some of my biases about CHOGM were corrected and interestingly, some of my fears were confirmed.
Don McKinnon’s writing style is conversational, breaking down the complex issues of CHOGM making them relatable and even entertaining. He offers us a unique look back into the workings of the Commonwealth and modern diplomacy.
McKinnon’s blog is extremely readable and informative. Like having a nice chat with a long lost friend.
It’s a great Side B to the CHOGM broken record.
